Abstract

This thesis includes the efforts of Sheikh Mohamed Abdullah Draz in studying the religious phenomena through his book “The Religion: Preface to the study of religions history”. The thesis deals with the main factors that affected his writings and formed his approach. The analytical, critical, descriptive and comparative approach is common in this thesis._x000D_ There are mainly three chapters: the first chapter deals with the linguistic and idiomatic meaning of religion and the common uses of the word religion. This chapter also deals with Sheikh Mohamed’s point of view towards the different definitions of religion. Moving to the origin of religion, the chapter clarifies how it is modern to search in the religion science adding the difference between studying the religious phenomena and studying the human ideologies. _x000D_ The second chapter describes the religious experience and how it is old since the existence of the human being. Presenting the religion psychological and social functions, the chapter analyzes the Sheikh’s idea of how religion affects groups. In addition, it defines the origin of the heaven ideology and the approaches followed in its studies. _x000D_ The third chapter describes the relation between the religion and the other sciences basically, between the religion and the ethics in one side and the religion and the philosophy in another side including examples of some philosophers’ point of views.
