Student thesis: Master's Dissertation

Abstract

This thesis explores the potential of integrating the Waqf system into Qatar University's (QU) financial aid framework to address the increasing financial challenges faced by students, particularly non-Qatari residents. The study identifies that traditional financial aid models have become unsustainable due to rising tuition fees and living costs, which threaten the inclusivity of higher education at QU. By examining the historical role of Waqf in supporting educational initiatives and its alignment with Islamic financial principles, the research proposes a sustainable financial model to enhance educational access and economic resilience. The methodology includes an in-depth analysis of QU's current financial aid systems, along with the potential benefits and challenges of establishing a Waqf fund. The findings suggest that a well-governed Waqf fund could provide a reliable funding source, enabling QU to attract top scholars, improve facilities, and maintain a competitive academic environment. The study concludes with recommendations for implementing the Waqf fund, highlighting stakeholder engagement and innovative financial strategies as essential for long-term student support and institutional growth. This research advances the expanding field of Islamic finance by providing practical insights for enhancing educational support systems.
