  • Md Al Amin

Student thesis: Doctoral Dissertation

Abstract

The Ready-Made Garments (RMG) industry in Bangladesh plays a vital role in economic growth but faces persistent challenges related to sustainability, resilience, and economic viability. High resource consumption, environmental impact, and regulatory pressures highlight the need for a structured approach that integrates sustainable practices with advanced technologies. This dissertation contributes by developing optimization models for sustainable and resilient supply chain management, providing a cost-effective framework tailored to the Bangladeshi RMG industry. Building on this foundation, it introduces synergistic frameworks that integrate Industry 5.0, Green Supply Chain Management, and Blockchain Technology to drive sustainable development in the Bangladeshi RMG industry. The research further enriches its contribution through empirical and case-based analysis, presenting quantitative models for optimizing multi-objective strategic planning and ergonomic interventions in sustainable RMG production. By incorporating ergonomic considerations, the study addresses the often-overlooked social dimension of sustainability while linking it with productivity and sustainable production outcomes. The findings provide a decision-making roadmap that balances sustainability, resilience, and cost-effectiveness, offering practical tools for businesses and policymakers. By aligning with global Sustainable Development Goals, this dissertation contributes to transforming the Bangladeshi RMG industry into a more sustainable, resilient, and competitive sector.
