Abstract

Social media’s significance is developing an online community that connects people together. Omani people are no exception where their activities are influenced by social media. Twitter is considered one of the important platforms where people share their thoughts, and it is also an important source for big data analytics. The hashtag feature of Twitter allows analytics to study people's reactions and feelings toward a specific topic. This thesis analyzes people’s tweets on a trending hashtag in Oman regarding the unemployment crisis using sentiment and emotional analysis. This research analyzes tweets posted by Omanis during the period between May 2020 to April 2021. The results reveal sentiment and emotional analysis that led to the contribution of the unemployment crisis.
