ABSTRACT_x000D_
Communities across the United Kingdom have been affected by the occurrence of young people becoming radicalised and joining the ‘Islamic State of Iraq and Syria’ (ISIS). The public sphere is replete with discussions about Muslims, radicalisation and ISIS which it has become impossible to ignore. This thesis examined how British Muslims experience life in the age of ISIS on the basis of focus groups conducted in Bristol and sources from British Muslim Organisations. _x000D_

After an introductory chapter (II), in which the social and political context is outlined, the thesis (III) examines the interplay of state policies on radicalisation, media representation of Islam and responses by two major Muslim organisations. In the final chapter (IV) using a qualitative methodology of focus groups, British Muslims’ engagements with the public debate on ISIS are analysed using Grounded Theory.
