Abstract

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education is growing worldwide, fueled by progress in machine learning and big data. While AI has the potential to revolutionize teaching and learning by offering personalized experiences and increasing engagement, its use in IEd requires thoughtful consideration. IEd focuses on a holistic development of the learners which values intellectual, moral, and spiritual growth, meaning that AI integration must align with these fundamental values. This study aims to investigates the integration of AI into IEd, focusing on the perspectives of Qatar based Islamic Studies educators. It intends to explore how AI can enhance IEd while addressing its unique ethical, moral and spiritual dimensions. It utilized a mixed-methods approach with the combination of a thorough literature review and a survey of 31 Islamic educators to gather their perspectives on the potential and limitations of AI. The findings uncover both the potential benefits and challenges of adopting AI, including concerns related to pedagogy, culture, and ethics. The study concludes with practical recommendations for policymakers, educators, and technology developers to ensure that AI integration in IEd is culturally sensitive and ethically responsible, fostering both intellectual and moral development.
