Student thesis: Master's Dissertation

Abstract

In the early 90’s Qatar was a small state in the Gulf peninsula, in less than two decades it has gone through remarkable transformation to emerge on the international landscape as an influential power in the MENA region peacemaking. This thesis aimed at evaluating the government of Qatar (GoQ) work in achieving peace and security through implementing effective aid to conflict-affected countries. Using a detailed fragility assessment of Lebanon and Sudan the thesis will assess the effectiveness of Qatar’s intervention. This thesis asserts that Qatar were able to bring conflicting parties to a settlement over the immediate causes of the crisis. However, it failed to achieve a sustainable peace and security.
