Political speech forms, establishes and defends the views, positions, & ideology of the
represented parties. The leaders of political parties express political intent through public
communication tailoring perception towards certain a state of affairs. Schaffner (1996)
claims that the language of political leader directs and inspires political action. The current
study utilizes qualitative thematic analysis method to investigate Benjamin Netanyahu’s
narrative construction within eight themes usually present in conflict ridden areas to
achieve and maintain the legitimacy of Israel within its own borders and internationally
over different time periods. My research findings indicate that Benjamin Netanyahu does
employ all eight themes exercising manipulative half-truths to portray Israel in a positive
light and further creating a wedge with the ‘other’. Netanyahu’s speeches hinder any
prospect of dialogue, and vilifies Palestinians. Moreover, through 1996 until recently
Netanyahu’s rhetoric has become more aggressive, right-wing, and violent.
