Abstract

Abstract_x000D_ _x000D_ _x000D_ The purpose of this study is to highlight “ William Muir’s” interest in India and the inter-sectarian relations in the Indian Subcontinent. And the role he played in the political , missionary and orientalist fields as a scholar in Islamic Studies . His life was full of achievements throughout his career in India as a high-level British serviceman where he served his country for nearly forty years. William made a lasting imprint in the evangelism and intellectual support field as a founder of several missionary schools and a strong advocate of education , encouraging female education . He came up with a scientific approach in employing the Islamic original sources to promote the distorted image of Islam and its Prophet. His concern in applying western education led to changes in the way Indians think about their relations , religion, and society and entrenched the false identities, sectarian division and prejudices .
