Abstract
Unlinkability of two or more arbitrary elements (e.g., users, actions, events, messages, etc.) within a given system implies that an attacker cannot adequately distinguish whether the elements are related or not (Steinbrecher and Köpsell, 2003). When the attacker’s ability to link these elements is entirely unaffected by his a priori or a posteriori knowledge (before or after interacting with the system), the unlinkability delta is said to be zero (or sufficiently small) (Pfitzmann and Hansen, 2010). In ISO/IEC 15408-2:2008, unlinkability is defined as ensuring “that a user may make multiple uses of resources or services without others being able to link these uses together” (ISO, 2008).
