Abstract

There is now a clear international consensus on the scope and function of safeguarding in sports. Even so, domestic laws cannot fully capture both the preventive nor the suppressive dimension of safeguarding for two key reasons: a) because some of the relevant actors are transnational in nature and hence not susceptible to one or more domestic laws; b) as well as because sport governing bodies (SGBs), such as those that exist in the realm of professional tennis possess the autonomy to self-regulate
