Abstract

As I stand back to reflect after reading the three titles under review here, one topic comes immediately to mind: recognition. This theme is addressed in regard to interpreting, interpreters, and users in three different settings: (1) a state (Ireland) that does not respond satisfactorily to the needs of multilingual communication;
(2) face-threatening conference situations in which the status of professional interpreters is at stake; and (3) adversarial situations in which individuals' rights and lives are on the line.
