Abstract

This chapter explores the concept and implementation of smart cities in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, examining the unique challenges and opportunities presented by the region’s economic, social, and technological landscape. It analyzes the motivations behind smart city initiatives in the GCC, including urbanization, economic diversification, and sustainability goals. The role of advanced technologies in shaping urban environments is discussed, alongside comparing the GCC’s approach to smart city development with global practices.
