Setting the agenda: translation as a set of frames

Since the genesis of translation and interpreting as standalone areas of scholarlyinvestigation, translation and interpretation (T&I) have made huge strides overthe past few decades. Moving beyond the initial preoccupations with such concepts as “equivalent”, whether the most “accurate” rendition has been providedand the prescriptivist diktat in terms of what the correct and best translation orinterpretation should or must be like, attention now has gradually shifted to theexamination of translation and interpreting as socially embedded activities thatare mediated by agents, subject to ideological mediation and often caught up inintricate power relations within a range of historical, sociopolitical, cultural andinstitutional contexts.
