Abstract
Storm surge estimates due to tropical cyclones are important for DAE facilities at coastal sites. The critical parameters needed in surge estimates (winds, central pressures and storm tracks) are predicted by weather numerical models. The potential for deep convection which strongly influences numerical weather predictions is closely tied to the boundary layer structure. Numerical models estimate the turbulence induced tendencies of momentum and thermodynamic quantities using a PBL scheme. The energy transfer from the ocean to the atmosphere plays the crucial role in providing the necessary energy supply for the intensification of the cyclonic system. It has also been found that subgrid-scale mixing length determined by the PBL scheme plays a crucial role in the determination of maximum tropical cyclone (TC) intensity and inner core structure. In the present study TC simulations with different PBL schemes have been conducted.
