Abstract
The limonoid compound salannin, isolated from the neem tree, demonstrates significant insecticidal properties along with a variety of beneficial biological activities. In addition to serving as an antifeedant, salannin effectively impedes insect growth and development in numerous species at concentrations much lower than those previously described. Its ability to control pest populations without the adverse environmental impacts associated with synthetic pesticides makes it a valuable component of integrated pest management (IPM) programs. Salannin can be considered a natural, non-chemical pesticide that helps preserve biodiversity and reduces chemical residues in the environment. This study offers insights into salannin's biological activity and its potential role in pest control strategies, underscoring its promise for developing safer, more effective pest control methods. As a result, salannin has the potential to be a key ingredient in future agricultural practices, promoting sustainability while also advancing research in eco-friendly pest management.
