Concerns were posted on PubPeer at https://pubpeer.com/publications/A1D9349115477475804EC66A9D3D79 regarding the reuse of the same discs in different papers (this paper; Advanced Powder Technology, Volume 33, Issue 11, 2022, 103780, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.apt.2022.103780; Advanced Powder Technology, Volume 33, Issue 8, 2022, 103708, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.apt.2022.103708; Biochemical Systematics and Ecology, Volume 105, 2022, 104535, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.bse.2022.104535) to represent different experimental conditions. The otherwise identical images were labelled differently in their respective articles. The authors were asked to respond and provided draft corrigenda for the other articles concerned, involving essentially the replacement of the duplicated images, and an assurance that the images in ER were correct, however they did not provide any explanation for what might have caused the numerous duplications in the first place. This response was unsatisfactory and consequently the editor has lost confidence in the reliability of the findings presented in this article as a whole, and is retracting it. The authors disagree with retraction and dispute the grounds for it.
