Abstract
This article has been retracted: please see Elsevier policy on article withdrawal (https://www.elsevier.com/about/policies-and-standards/article-withdrawal). This article has been retracted at the request of the Editor. Concerns about this article were expressed on PubPeer at https://pubpeer.com/publications/09314643977F89B30115EE4297AD37. The authors responded to these concerns on PubPeer and also directly to the journal. The Editor assessed the response and concluded the following as possible points of misinterpretation by the authors; readers are advised to exercise caution: The FTIR spectrum below 700 cm-1 is likely noise rather than signals originating from the photocatalyst as the authors argue. The high noise level in this region is not unusual and is typically caused by instrumental limitations. The mode of operation can also affect the noise level in this region. There is no evidence that the composite is a core-double-shell nanocomposite. There is some interpretation error in the DRS (Figure 2c). The photocatalyst used in this study is a composite structure with three components. Estimating the optical bandgap using Tauc's plot model is not accurate simply because the composite consists of multiple light absorbing components. The XPS spectrum of O 1s (supplementary file) is assigned to defective oxide which is rather confusing as no such peak was mentioned in the cited reference. In the mechanism figure (Scheme 2), the authors drew the hydroxyl radical coming from the Ce2S3 which is misleading. The bandgap position of this component is not positive enough to oxidize water. Unauthorised authorship changes were made when the revised version of this paper was submitted, following suggestions for relatively minor revisions, with authors Taghrid S. Alomar, Chang-Feng Yan and Najla AlMasoud being added to the paper at first revision. No satisfactory explanation was given for this change, nor was it approved by the editor. This authorship change breaches the policies of the journal and as a result, the editor no longer has confidence in this paper and is retracting it. The journal apologises for not having identified the problematic authorship change during the review process and for any resulting inconvenience.
