Abstract
The exponential growth of the global population has led to the accelerated depletion of natural resources. The rise in population and advancements in technology have necessitated the optimization of finite natural resources in response to growing consumption and energy demands. Thus, discourses surrounding sustainability emerged throughout the latter half of the twentieth century, coinciding with the escalation of consumer patterns and environmental challenges to their zenith. The concept of “sustainability” can be understood as a delicate equilibrium and is intricately linked to the notion of “futurity.” This concept is predicated on the assumption that resources possess inherent limitations and ought to be utilized judiciously and strategically, focusing on long-term priorities. Concerning this perspective, the concept of sustainable development was established to encompass the ongoing preservation of essential ecological processes and life-sustaining systems.
