Abstract
Loneliness is a prevalent global public health concern with complex dynamics requiring further exploration. This study aims to enhance understanding of loneliness dynamics through building a prototype of a global loneliness map. The prototype is available online for public access. The prototype serves the purpose of making available different web and social media information under one point which can be accessed easily and intuitively. Through our literature review and research, we have divided the available information on loneliness into different categories. These categories explore different aspects of information on loneliness and can be a starting point for early researchers diving into the informatics aspect of loneliness. The protype presented in this paper combines news on loneliness which can be a valuable tool to have a glimpse of loneliness in a country. The information is categorized country-wise, such that the navigation of it is user-friendly. The prototype provided here can be further improved by integrating analysis and information from the sources provided into the architecture provided by the map. This prototype of a loneliness map can be a valuable tool for policymakers to have a glimpse of loneliness and for researchers to further build upon information retrieval systems for loneliness.
