Abstract

The present chapter discusses the role of the holy Qur’¯an as a divine guide providing a road map for a human being toward positivity. The chapter is primarily dedicated to delineating the therapeutic endeavors within the boundaries of Islam and so deals with the themes like therapeutic effects of sleep, dream inter-pretation (DI), and its place in the clinical practice and engaging in contemplation. There has been a brief mention of Islamic jurisprudence and forensic psychology as well, focusing the Islamic rulings in the cases of involuntary admission and insanity criteria. The chapter advances toward the theme of the indigenous concept of incorporating various psychotherapeutic principles particular to the Islamic side, (traditional Islamically integrated psychotherapy, emotional, behavioral, spiritual, and contemplation-based). It further elaborates on the idea of Islamic integrated psychotherapy and how it has evolved to bridge the gap between secular and sacred traditions in psychotherapy research. Finally, it highlights the idea of a Muslim ther-apist, which bears parallel importance to a psychotherapist in the secular/mainstream tradition. The chapter mentions the idea of “change” and the mechanism which brings about this change in human behavior, thus completing the process of psychotherapy. Critical conclusive remarks mark the end of the chapter.
