Abstract

The polymer membrane with acacia gum (gum Arabic) additive is a membrane made by casting a polymer with acacia gum additive to improve porosity, reduce hydrophobia, and provide antifouling for the membrane. The polymer may be polysulfone, polyethersulfone, or any other polymer known in the art for making separation membranes. The membrane may be prepared by the phase inversion method, or by casting followed by evaporation of the solvent. The membrane may be used for water desalination, water purification, nano-micro-, or ultrafiltration, gas purification, and other processes. The acacia gum (gum arabic) additive increases the pore size, porosity, flux, and hydrophilicity of the membrane while reducing surface roughness and membrane fouling.
