Abstract

The chapters in this volume have delivered a valuable, comprehensive, and clear assessment of important changes in family life as well as opportunities to move future research in new directions. In this concluding chapter, we offer a general overview of the chapters and explain how each chapter furthers understanding of family issues in the Gulf region. We focus on a variety of family life issues, from relationships within families (marital, parent-child) to the interface of organizations (work, schools) with families to the influence of broader societal forces (e.g., youth independence movements, national financial changes) on families. We also provide policy and program recommendations stemming from each of the chapters. We conclude by suggesting a framework for family well-being in the Gulf region.
