Abstract

In this paper, we investigate the average bit error probability (ABEP) performance of a relaying radio- frequency/free-space optic (RF/FSO) coded and uncoded communication system employing an energy harvesting-based fixed gain amplify-and-forward (AF) relay. Along with maximal-ratio combining (MRC) at both nodes, the convolutional self orthogonal codes and majority logic decoding method (MLGD) are explicitly examined at the source and destination, respectively. In addition, the source-relay channel experiences i.n.i.d. Nakagami-m fading, while the relay-destination link is modeled by Málaga-M fading with the effect of pointing errors taking into account many apertures at the destination. Due to the significant coding benefits that these codes offer, the results of the Monte Carlo simulation proved that the proposed decoding technique is adequate for such communication.
