Abstract

Home-based wound management services play a critical role in ensuring timely care, preventing complications, and reducing unnecessary hospital visits. However, delivering wound care through mobile medical units requires careful planning to strike a balance between operational efficiency and quality of care, particularly in limited resource environments and uncertain service conditions. This study uses an optimization-based simulation approach to determine suitable fleet sizes under both constrained and unconstrained time settings across various vehicle availability ranges. It also considers the risk that patients sent to home care may deteriorate and require delayed hospital visits, affecting both clinical safety and resource management. Results demonstrated a significant trade-off between patients' waiting time and deterioration events, highlighting the need for an optimized patient allocation decision-making.
