Abstract
In this anniversary paper, we provide an overview of mixed methods research (MMR) in teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL). Addressing a brief history and key conceptual underpinnings of MMR, we map its trajectory in TESOL and applied linguistics. We also address the application of MMR in TESOL Quarterly research and suggest guidelines for conducting MMR in TESOL. Finally, focusing on the use of emerging technologies in research, we explore some future directions for MMR in TESOL.
