Abstract

This chapter returns to explore the impact of Western management of the Middle East on the growth of economic disparity internationally and locally and on the waves of migration from the countries of the South to the North. Europe’s encounter with an increasingly religiously conscious Muslim population is discussed in this chapter, exploring the meaning and implication of such encounters for the globalizing world. We also look into the nature of neo-fundamentalism and its roots in modernity and contrast it with the struggle of mainstream Western Muslims to engage in self-assessment and adaptation to bring transcendental values and ideals to the modern age.
