Introduction to labor economics in an Islamic framework

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides an insight into the conventional theory of present labor economics and the system which prevails worldwide. It presents a review of the contribution of Muslim scholars on labor economics. The book then discusses the concept and nature of labor in an Islamic framework and presents the importance, rights, duties, and employee and employer relationship in the value-based system in a broader view. It also attempts to investigate how the system of industrial relations works in this value-based environment and focuses on the management’s behavior and the process of a contract under the umbrella of Shari’ah. The book presents a review of the Muslim countries from their economic perspective. It then discusses the labor market of Islamic countries and analyzes the behavior of the policymakers toward the achievement of targeted employment levels.
