Abstract

This directory is in continuation of the previous listing of bibliographic databases on CD-ROM which was published in Information Development, volume 4, number 3, 1988. Since then, a number of changes have taken place in the world of CD-ROM. According to a recent issue of I'M:
Information Market, CD-ROM databases are now more commercial than online databases. There are at present somewhere between 600 and 800 CD-ROM products of various descriptions. Some of these, however, are inhouse databases or demonstration products, and are not yet available for purchase. Most CD-ROM products originate in the United States. About 40 percent are bibliographical databases. Two major bibliographic databases recently made available on CD-ROM are BIOSIS (BioSciences Information Service) and COMPENDEX (Computerized Engineering Index). Several major databases are available from more than one vendor; for example. the ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) databases are available from Dialog.
OCLC (Online Library Center) and SilverPlatter. while MEDLINE is available from Compact Cambridge, Dialog, EBSCO and SilverPlatter.
