Abstract

The organization of mega sport events provides host countries with the opportunity to gain international exposure, reap potential economic benefits, and leave lasting and positive legacies. Qatar achieved its’ global cultural ambitions’ by hosting the 2022 men’s FIFA World Cup and strengthened its diplomatic power. One way to achieve this goal has been a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program that uses football to promote social change on an individual and community level. The chapter presents an illustrative case of geopolitics through football based on the human and social legacy program of Qatar 2022, namely the Generation Amazing Foundation (GA). Two examples are presented to illustrate the case: a humanitarian response to the Afghanistan crisis and a South-South partnership to advance a football-for-development curriculum.
