Abstract

The increasing global energy demand, driven by expanding sectors and population growth, highlights the urgent need for sustainable energy solutions. This chapter examines the crucial switch from finite fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, emphasizing the role that renewable energy plays in long-term energy security and environmental sustainability. Investment in renewable energy technologies, particularly wind and solar, has lagged behind despite declining costs of production and significant advancement because of perceived financial risks and unstable regulation. This chapter explores many financial approaches to help the world’s transition to renewable energy sources, such as project financing, green bonds, crowdsourcing, and public funding. The chapter gives advice on practical strategies for accelerating this transition by examining case studies and empirical literature to shed light on the challenges associated with funding renewable energy. Furthermore, it aims to provide an understanding of best practices for financing investments in renewable energy by analyzing the experiences of many nations and regions, ultimately paving the way for a more secure and sustainable energy future.
