Abstract

Many of practical Wyner-Ziv (WZ) video coding solutions in the literature make use of the feedback channel to perform rate control at the decoder which implies there must be feedback channel (FC) available in the application scenario addressed. The FC-based DVC solutions have implications in terms of delay and decoder complexity since the decoder applies the "request- anddecode" to perform rate control. In this work we propose a simple initial rate estimation algorithm to reduce the number of request, promising results are achieved without increasing the encoder complexity.
