Faith in Moderation: Islamic Parties in Jordan and Yemen

This book sets out to test the hypothesis that the inclusion of a “radical” Islamist
movement/party into the established political system as a legitimate entity may
transform such entity into a “moderate” one. The theme is quite profound, because
if the hypothesis is true, the inclusiveness of radical and militant Islamic groups
as legitimate entities into the political spheres of their respective countries may have
the result of producing a moderate Islamism that no longer relies on militant and
violent tactics, without moreover having to go underground to achieve these pur-
poses. As this is set out from the outset to be a case study, the author focuses, in
order to test the veracity of the hypothesis, on the two major Islamic parties in
Jordan and Yemen.
