Abstract

This research article systematically reviews older adults’ acceptance and adoption of humanoid robots. It investigates various aspects, including attitudes, barriers, enablers, benefits, applications, and interactions between humans and robots within this context. The review emphasizes the significance of understanding older adults’ perspectives and identifies influential factors such as familiarity with technology and trust. Barriers, such as fear of technology, and enablers, exemplified by positive user experiences, are thoroughly examined. The benefits of humanoid robots for social interaction, assistance, and rehabilitation are explored alongside the associated challenges. Additionally, human-robot interaction and ethical considerations are addressed. The article suggests future research directions, particularly emphasizing longitudinal studies and interdisciplinary collaboration. The insights provided in this review contribute to a deeper understanding of humanoid robots’ potential to enhance older adults’ lives.
