Abstract

Er-doped LiNbO3 crystals with a melt concentration ranging from 0.5 to 8 mol% have been grown by the Czochralski technique to study the Er incorporation into the LiNbO3 lattice. The Er concentration modifies the crystal lattice parameters and the intensity of the optical absorption band. A limit for the Er incorporation into the crystal was found around 3 mol% through the saturation behavior of the dopant crystal concentration, the lattice parameters and the integrated area of the optical polarized absorption bands.
