Abstract
A major energy recovery study has been undertaken on fifteen furnaces in the Jordanian oil refinery. The flue gases were being exhausted into the atmosphere at temperatures in excess of 400 degree C. Various heat recovery systems have been considered and compared on an economic basis. The recovery schemes include air preheaters, economizers and waste heat boilers. It has been shown that annual financial savings in fuel of POUND 1. 22 multiplied by 10**6 may be achieved and that payback times for the various heat recovery systems lie between 0. 14 and 2. 07 years.
