Abstract
Over the last decades, the energy sector has been increasingly linked to a wide range of adverse environmental, social, and governance (ESG) impacts which accentuate the need for ethical production and distribution of energy resources. This chapter examines ethical principles and obligations that guide energy activities across its entire value chain, ranging from exploration, production, distribution to decommissioning. It analyses how ethical considerations, such as public participation, accountability, non-discrimination and equality, access to information, legality and access to justice, can be effectively implemented and strengthened to ensure a safe, orderly and responsible production, distribution and consumption of energy.
