Research to Support Education for All

More than 250 million children and youth are not in school. Education Above All works around the world to ensure no child is left behind. Effectively supporting children and youth requires evidence to implement impactful interventions. The College of Public Policy at HBKU has been a knowledge partner for Education Above All since 2023 to provide this much needed evidence. The research has been published and made available to all governments, intergovernmental agencies and non-governmental organizations who are also working toward ensuring no child is left behind. In collaboration with EAA, a database of more than 500 education experiences has been created to make global evidence easily accessible to all. Together, EAA and HBKU are leading the generating and dissemination of evidence to make progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG4, access to education for all. The project will be led by Logan Cochrane at CPP (HBKU) who will work closely with EAA on identifying countries for study and education policy issues that need evidence. Joining this project is Dr Abdulfatah Mohamed, from the College of Islamic Studies, who has extensive experience working with NGOs. Due to a change of policy at EAA, matching funds will be required starting from 2026 for research collaborations. This HBKU opportunity comes at a perfect time to enable this collaboration to continue. The impact for the amount invested has been remarkable. Funded projects of comparable size and funding have a fraction of the outputs, on average, demonstrating the commitment of all the experts who are involved – the scholars from around the world – to make this collaboration a success. With the first US$200,000, this collaboration was able to produce 20 academic papers – 12 of which are published and 8 are under review. This proposal seeks to continue this collaboration with a Postdoc based at HBKU for 18-months (giving the first 6 months of the project time for recruitment, hiring and processing). This Postdoc will work closely with EAA and HBKU to continue to produce high-quality, relevant and timely evidence to support decision making. An HBKU student will be hired for 8 months to support the development of the EAA educational database.
