Abstract
IRCICA holds a valuable manuscript, Kudüs-i Şerif Rum Patrikhanesi nizamnamesidir (Statute of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem), which compiles all known Ottoman sultanic decrees addressed to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, along with related Arabic court decisions. Because it brings these texts together in a single volume, it has major historical significance.
The project will: (1) transcribe the full manuscript from Ottoman Turkish and Arabic, (2) translate it into Arabic, (3) trace and locate the original source manuscripts it drew on, (4) produce a scholarly edition with introduction, annotations, and explanatory notes, and (5) write an academic article based on the findings.
Overall, the study will offer the first comprehensive overview of these decrees and deepen understanding of Ottoman–Patriarchate relations in Jerusalem.
