Project: Applied Research

Project Details

Abstract

This research aims to deepen the understanding of declining villages in Qatar, Hungary, and South Africa by analyzing their economic, environmental, and cultural aspects. It investigates the socio-economic drivers of rural decline and proposes sustainable development strategies to counter these trends. Through comprehensive mapping, data collection, and engagement with local communities and stakeholders, the project seeks to document the current conditions and historical significance of these villages. It will explore various revitalization strategies including eco-tourism, adaptive reuse, and community-led initiatives to enhance local economies and preserve cultural heritage. The study's findings will contribute to academic discussions and inform policy development, aiming to balance modernization with cultural preservation and improve the quality of life in rural settings. This approach aligns with the QRDI’s focus on "Society" and "Health", advocating for the benefits of smaller towns in providing viable alternatives to urban living, thereby addressing urban- rural disparities and promoting inclusive, sustainable growth.
