Abstract
This research examines Muslim education in Late Medieval and Colonial India, using Gilani's work on Muslim educational systems as its primary source. The study investigates the evolution of Islamic education from early Chishty Order's Maktabs to the development of localized teaching methods, drawing comparisons between traditional Hindu and Muslim educational institutions. It explores the tensions between traditional and modern education during the colonial period and their impact on Muslim intellectual life. The research will analyze Gilani's proposed model for a modern madrasah while examining how different educational frameworks influenced Muslim cultural identity. The study builds upon established scholarship, including works by Metcalf, Robinson, Sikand, and Zaman, to provide a comprehensive understanding of Muslim educational dynamics in historical India.
