Environmental Impacts and Corrosion Mitigation in Coatings and Pipelines

Project: Applied Research

Project Details

Abstract

This project aims to improve the durability and functionality of material surfaces by advancing their corrosion, physical and chemical properties to offer superior protection in harsh environments. Focus is put on developing innovative surface modifications that can withstand extreme conditions, such as high salinity, humidity, and variable temperature, which are common in industries like oil, gas, energy, and water treatment. By creating functional surfaces with enhanced corrosion resistance, dust resistance, and chemical stability, we seek to reduce material degradation, extend component lifespans, and optimize performance. In this project, we focus on two main material methods to improve functionality of material surfaces: Coating and corrosion inhibition. We aim to optimize the performance of surface coatings to provide superior protection against environmental and chemical factors, enhancing material longevity and reliability. These optimized surface coatings will play a critical role in safeguarding materials used in harsh industrial environments, reducing maintenance needs, and supporting sustainable practices. In addition, we will be conducting in-depth investigations into corrosion-inhibiting compounds and mechanisms designed to enhance surface resilience, particularly in environments characterized by extreme conditions and exposure to aggressive chemicals, such as oil and gas, and ammonia processing conditions with the aim to enhance inhibitor systems performance in the energy sector.
