Critical Applications of Quranic Studies

Project: Applied Research

Project Details

Abstract

The project consists of five scholarly articles in progress exploring various aspects of Quranic Studies, building upon previous work in decolonizing the field. The articles cover topics including Dhu l-Qarnayn in Late Antiquity, Izutsu's philosophical semantics in contemporary Tafsir, the Quran as a universal reminder, Sūrat al-Mujādila's role in Madinan community development, and the concepts of heart and breast in Ibn ʿAjība's work. Additionally, a book project on Sūrat al-Kahf is underway, with plans to submit to publishers like Yale University Press in summer 2025. The articles are targeted for publication in journals such as Religions and The Journal of Islam and Muslim Relations, with submissions planned for March 2025. Grant funds will support research assistants, literature acquisition, and open-access publishing.
