Project Details

Abstract

The project focuses on the examination of applications of blockchain technology particularly on Fintech applications of cryptocurrencies, central bank digital currency (CBDC), and smart contracts. The project will research the categories of current global technological advancement in Fintech, blockchain, finance, and regulatory environments in countries that implemented this technology and have conclusions on the futures of Blockchain in Islamic finance and in Qatar. The central question is why there is not even one public blockchain application in Qatar and whether the reason(s) relates to existing classic monetary policies and fear of competition to the banking sector, which can impact the economic status of the country, or is it the rigidity of the legal instruments that are designed to handle such technological advancement?
