Dr. Rashad Al-Gaashani is a Scientist at the Water Center,  QEERI, HBKU, Qatar Foundation, where he also serves as the laboratory focal point for the Water Innovation Lab for 3 years. He received his Ph.D. in Materials Science from UKM, Malaysia, in 2012, and previously served as an Assistant Professor at Thamar University, Yemen. His research focuses on biochar for sustainable environmental remediation and the circular economy, nanomaterials, nanocomposites, carbon-based materials, and the development of advanced filtration materials, particularly activated carbon and biomass-derived biochar, for water and wastewater treatment. His work also encompasses the removal of emerging contaminants, including PFAS, and the development of sustainable technologies for water purification and resource recovery. Dr. Al-Gaashani has published more than 36 peer-reviewed journal articles, holds two patents, and has an h-index of 17, an i10-index of 24, and more than 3,910 citations. He was recognized among the Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientists in both 2024 and 2025. He also serves on the Scientific Advisory Boards of international conference and is an active peer reviewer for leading international journals. He has extensive expertise in advanced materials characterization techniques, including XRD, SEM, TEM, EDS, FTIR, TGA, UV-Vis spectroscopy, XPS, and BET surface area analysis.
