Biography
Dr. Mahmood Irtiza Hussain joined the Qatar Center for Quantum Computing (QC2) as a Sr. Scientist, leading a team in the quantum sensing division. At QC2 he is focused on the engineering and investigation of broadband optical coherent control benefiting the quantum sensors, sensitive to gravity and inertial sensing based on cold-atom interferometry. The project is funded by the Qatar National Research Fund.
He obtained his PhD from Griffith University, Queensland, Australia. Dr. Irtiza worked with numerous internationally renowned research teams and institutions in the field of quantum information sciences and quantum optics. He was a member of Prof. Rainer Blatt's group at the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI) at the Austrian Academy of Sciences and later at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. Subsequently, he joined Professor Peter Thirolf's group at the University of Munich (LMU) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology in Germany as part of the EU Thorium Nuclear Clock project. In addition, he worked as a consultant at IonQ Quantum Inc. MD, USA, and conducted research at the National Institute of Informatics in Tokyo, Japan. His research interests include trapped-ion quantum information, atomic clocks, optical nuclear spectroscopy, quantum sensing with quantum matter, fiber optical engineering, and novel ultrafast optical sources (frequency combs).
