    Personal profile

    Biography

I am an assistant professor in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, where I teach postcolonial and world literature, film and visual culture, literary theory, and writing. Before joining HBKU, I taught at Texas A&M University at Qatar, the University of Miami, and several other universities in the United States and abroad. Before working in higher education, I also worked as a travel writer in China, publishing essays and reportage in newspapers, magazines, and online publications.

My research focuses on literature and film connected to the Global South, particularly questions of war, migration, colonialism, humanitarianism, and political violence. I am interested in how literary and visual forms shape the way suffering, displacement, and dehumanization are understood and represented. Much of my work examines the relationship between narrative, ethics, and power, with particular attention to how literature and film challenge dominant political and cultural frameworks. I am always happy to connect with others working on related questions in literature, film, visual culture, pedagogy, and interdisciplinary humanities research.
